Doha, Qatar: Set to take place at the end of this year, the Qatar Tourism Awards is returning for its second edition. Developed in partnership with UN Tourism, the Qatar Tourism Awards is designed to celebrate and recognise the remarkable contributions made by businesses in delivering outstanding and distinct tourism experiences in Qatar.
The total number of inbound visitors to Qatar experienced an annual growth of 10.2 percent in July 2024, reaching approximately 317,000. Additionally, there was a monthly rise of 0.4 percent compared to June 2024. This information was highlighted in the 127th edition of the Qatar Monthly Statistical Bulletin released by the National Planning Council, which indicated that the majority of visitors (46 percent) were from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). When examining visitor entry points, air travel accounted for the largest share, comprising 59 percent of all arrivals.
Qatar’s hospitality sector witnessed a significant boost in 2024, with a 29% increase in hotel occupancy compared to the same period in 2023. Occupancy rates stood at a steady 69%, signaling robust growth driven by several key factors. One of the major contributors to this rise is the expansion of Qatar’s entertainment and leisure sectors, which has attracted more tourists and encouraged longer stays. The surge in tourist arrivals, combined with the opening of new hotels, has helped maintain the momentum in the country’s hospitality industry.
The World Travel & Tourism Council’s (WTTC) 2024 Economic Impact Research (EIR) indicates that Qatar’s travel and tourism sector is poised for unprecedented growth this year. With a projected contribution of QAR 90.8bn to the economy, accounting for 11.3% of the total GDP, and supporting more than 334,500 jobs (15.8% of the total workforce), the sector is becoming a cornerstone of the national economy.
